Women’s safety and counterterrorism measures are the main priorities of the Pune police: Top cop

Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta said on Thursday that women’s safety and counterterrorism measures were the two top priorities for his force.
Speaking to a press conference at the Pune Labor Journalists Union office, Gupta said the city police are appealing to various stakeholders such as the regional transport office (RTO), the municipal company of Pune, the railways and the PMPML (civic transport company) to develop a plan to ensure the safety of women.
Her comments came in the context of the recent kidnapping and gang rape of a 14-year-old girl and the alleged rape of a 6-year-old girl by a rickshaw driver. Thirteen people, most of them rickshaw drivers, were allegedly involved in the gang rape incident.
“All of these stakeholders have come together to take action for the safety of women,” said the senior IPS officer.
Women’s safety and counterterrorism measures are two main priorities for the Pune police, although they are difficult tasks. In general crime, a perpetrator can be traced and found, but in crimes against women and those related to terrorism, the person who commits them is largely unrecorded, ” he said.
Police have already implemented a series of measures to prevent such crimes, Gupta said.
