Tamil Nadu DGP issues instructions for trifurcation of Grand Chennai police station
Tamil Nadu DGP C Sylendra Babu has issued instructions for the trifurcation of the Grand Chennai Police (GCP). Last month, Chief Minister MK Stalin announced the formation of two new police stations in Tambaram and Avadi. In a statement to Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal and two other special officers on Saturday, the DGP said the existing GCP station with 137 taluk police stations will now have 104 police stations.
He said the new Avadi police station would operate with 20 police stations from the current GCP and five from Tiruvallur district, and the new Tambaram police station would operate with 13 existing GCP police stations, two from Kancheepuram district and five from Kancheepuram district. The DGP asked the special officers to send a detailed proposal regarding the force required for the armed reserve and motorized transport, special units, equipment, machines, vehicles, mobility, etc. It was noted that the first proposals regarding the competence of the new police stations and the way in which it would be supervised with the officers should reach the head of the state police within a week.
“Special agents should identify suitable accommodation in consultation with the Grand Chennai Police Commissioner and begin their full-fledged operations as special officers of the new police stations no later than October 30,” the statement said.
The 20 police stations that would fall under the jurisdiction of GCP’s Avadi Police Station include Milk Colony, Redhills, Manali, Sathangadu, Manali New Town, Ennore, Mangadu, Poonamallee, Nazarathpet, Muthapudupet, Pattabiram, Ambattur, Ambattur Estate, Korattur, Thiruverkadu, SRMC, Avadi, Tank Factory, Thirumullaivoyal and Thirunindravur. Meanwhile, the stations of Vellavedu, Sevvapet, Sholavaram, Minjur and Kattur would be annexed to Thiruvallur.
Likewise, the 13 police stations that would report to GCP’s Tambaram Police Station include Tambaram, Chromepet, Selaiyur, Chitlapakkam, Peerkankaranai, Kunrathur, Pallavaram, Sankar Nagar, Pallikaranai, Perumbakkam, Semmencherry, Kannagi Nagar, and Kanathurry, Kannagi Nagar and Kanath.
Somangalam, Manimangalam from Kancheepuram District and Otteri, Guduvancheri, Maraimalar Nagar, Thalambur and Kelambakkam from Chengalpattu District are also reportedly part of Tambaram Police Station.
