An intelligent air transport system was unveiled at a port in Qingdao, Shandong province, as its demonstration section entered service on Wednesday. The system represents a significant step forward in China’s construction of smart and environmentally friendly ports.

The system combines port and rail activities, creating a safer, more efficient, environmentally friendly and economical mode of transportation, according to the Port Group of Qingdao Port of Shandong, which operates the system.

With a length of 620 meters, the demonstration section uses advanced technologies such as the BeiDou satellite navigation system and 5G communication. The operation process is intelligent and fully electric with low noise and zero pollution.

The system can also be connected to various businesses related to the port, ranging from rail-sea transit service to customs procedures and cross-border trade.

Li Yongcui, general manager of the fully automated port, said that the area of the intelligent air transport system is only 30% of that of road construction, and the construction cost is reduced by more than 50% compared to the original rail plan. .
