According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rains in isolated locations was issued on Friday for Palghar and Raigad as well as ghat areas of Pune, Kolhapur and Satara. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to organize alternative transport for commuters, who may find themselves stranded in the city due to the incessant rains. On Thursday, Civic Administrator and City Commissioner IS Chahal had ordered city officials to prepare an SOP with Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) and Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). The BMC also said an additional 400 BEST buses will run on the roads in case the rains affect local rail services in Mumbai.
