No more govt. current projects
Among a multitude of plans to install CCTV cameras, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has started installing the devices on its buses. At a cost of over 75 crore, 2,500 buses will be placed under CCTV surveillance under the Nirbhaya Fund.
Each bus is to be fitted with three cameras – two focusing on the front and rear entrances and one covering the walkway, an MTC official said.
Police have rejuvenated Project Third Eye, in which existing 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras will be brought back to life. He plans to add 42,000 devices to cover the existing gray areas.
Over 20,000 CCTV cameras are to be installed as part of the Greater Chennai Corporation’s Smart City project.
Sophisticated cameras have been installed at the Anna Nagar roundabout to improve traffic discipline and help reduce traffic violations in the locality.
These devices in the Traffic Regulatory Observation Zone (TROZ) helped police automatically send e-challan to violators. Now, TROZ has been integrated into the National Computer Center, which is also linked to Vahan, an integrated portal for vehicle registration across the country. It will now monitor traffic violations in real time and help reduce violations. The project should be extended to other regions.
