Many vehicles have arrived in the metropolis of Sekondi-Takoradi

Dozens of people have started arriving in the metropolis of Sekondi-Takoradi to celebrate Christmas this year.

The metropolis has been a center of attraction for Christmas in recent times, with many activities including a masquerade festival.

There was heavy car traffic in the metropolis’ central business district as people drove to the market to buy Christmas items.

When the Ghanaian News Agency (GNA) visited some bus terminals in the metropolis, it observed that more vehicles were arriving in the metropolis than those leaving for other parts of the country.

The situation affected the business of drivers loading from the metropolis to other destinations.

The GNA observed that there were empty vehicles at the main bus station in Tarkwa, Axim, Prestea and Tema, with only a handful of passengers around.

Mr Ben Kwadjo, a driver at the train station, said people were no longer traveling as before because there was no money in the system.

He complained about low sales associated with the high cost of fuel, but remained optimistic about the trend change in the coming days.

“You see there are a lot of cars with less people on board, this year people are not coming from Takoradi,” he said.

Mr. Frederick Aidoo, supervisor at Accra-Takoradi station, said the drivers were in distress due to high fuel prices.

He explained that the high cost of fuel ultimately eroded the profitability of drivers.

“I would be ungrateful to say that business is good or bad but whatever the situation, the little we do each day we are paying homage to God,” he added.

Mr Richard Ahin, who had traveled from Tema to celebrate Christmas in Takoradi, said he wanted to attend the masquerade festival, have fun and relax after a stressful year.

“I heard people making noise about Takoradi and Christmas, so I came here to see for myself,” another person added.

Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere-Darko is expected to officially open Christmas activities in the metropolis with a trade fair at Takoradi Mall.
