Holcim Transport Analytics Center (TAC) reduces Scope 3 emissions
Holcim is deploying its industry-leading Transport Analytics Center (TAC) on a global scale to optimize its logistics to improve efficiency, safety and sustainability. TAC is currently active in 50 markets around the world, covering 1.4 billion km each year, with tracking systems in more than 60,000 trucks. This cutting-edge digital platform contributes to the company’s net zero journey by reducing its Scope 3 emissions, in line with its first industry target.
TAC optimizes logistics in a data-driven way, powered by advanced analytics and artificial intelligence. With its tracking devices, TAC uses the data for optimal route mapping, increasing the predictability and safety of deliveries. This proprietary digital tool allows Holcim to transparently monitor its transport-related emissions, including those of its third-party suppliers, in order to continuously reduce its environmental footprint in accordance with its scope 3 emissions target.
Alexander Scheld, Head of Cement Logistics, Holcim: “TAC’s digital analysis provides state-of-the-art logistics, achieving record performance in terms of safety and efficiency. TAC is not only good for business, it also improves driver safety and reduces emissions, in line with our net zero ambition.
Jochen Werling, Group CIO, Holcim: “TAC is a great example of how we are becoming a data driven organization. Using our extensive industry expertise and cutting-edge technologies, we develop cutting-edge digital solutions tailored to our specific business needs. TAC is a breakthrough for us and for our industry at large. “
TAC integrates on-board monitoring systems (iVMS) in trucks and correlates their data with other sources, such as control and dispatch systems. This allows the company to individually track and monitor truck usage, routes and driver behavior, improving efficiency, safety and sustainability. On its net zero journey, Holcim has set itself the first objective of reducing its industry’s scope 3 emissions, with the aim of reducing its scope 3 emissions linked to transport and fuels by 20% by 2030 (compared to the 2020 benchmark of 29 million tonnes / CO2). With TAC, Holcim is accelerating its goal of reducing scope 3 emissions.
