‘Digital 12.5L ration cards issued in Uttarakhand’ | Dehradun News

Dehradun: Food and Civil Supplies Minister Rekha Arya told the House that 12.58 lakh new digital ration cards had been issued to beneficiaries in the hill state. She acknowledged that due to recent assembly polls and the second wave of Covid, the printing and distribution of the new ration cards has been hampered.
While 13.46 lakh of ration cards were to be made, so far only 12.58 lakh have been distributed and the rest are being printed. The highest number of ration cards of 2.38 lakh were distributed in Udham Singh Nagar, followed by 2.05 lakh in Dehradun. The printing and distribution of ration cards should be complete by July 2022, she said.
As part of the state government’s “No to the Ineligible – Yes to the Eligible” campaign against fake ration card holders, up to 58,374 card holders voluntarily surrendered their ration cards made under main family (38,873), antyodaya (4,820) and state diets (14,681). People who have not yet received a digital ration card, “they can meet the authorities concerned and the necessary help will be given to them”, she said.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Transport Minister Chandan Ram Das told the House on Wednesday that the state transport company had suffered a loss of Rs 595 crore since its inception in 2003. He said that the government was “doing its best to make the company profitable”. He was responding to a question posed by Congressman Pritam Singh. The minister added that the state also aims to improve revenue through advertisements, courier services and the use of CNG-equipped buses. Also, the working style within the company was being “modernized” in an effort to improve overall performance, he said.
In response to another question, the Minister informed the House that the government earns Rs 3 crore every year through advertising campaigns.
Additionally, the state has saved Rs 1.5 crore through CNG-equipped buses, which operate on a contract basis.
