1 million ballot box stuffings: Mahama must show proof

Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation, Nana Akomea
State Transport Corporation (STC) Managing Director Nana Akomea backed calls by the Election Commission (EC) for the Ghana Police Service to investigate ex-President John Mahama’s allegations of ballot stuffing against the Commission.
The EC challenged the former president to provide evidence to validate his claims or otherwise.
EC Dares Mahama
During its âLet the Citizen Knowâ series aimed at providing an update on the 2020 elections, the EC said; The former president said the EC’s thumb printed 1 million ballots in favor of the president. It’s wrong. This is a serious issue that undermines the credibility of our electoral process and should not be ignored. We call on him to provide evidence to support his claim. “
The Commission asked the police to take up the matter saying that “this is not an issue to be ignored and we ask the Ghana Police Service to investigate this matter”.
The transparency of our process makes it completely impossible for this to happen. In the polling stations, before the start of the elections, the empty ballot boxes are opened and displayed in the presence of all, then sealed. There are serial numbers on the ballots for each region and constituency. This is brought to the attention of the Agents before the elections. Our ballots also have security features, so any new material will be clearly visible.
Again, at the end of the ballot, the cast ballots are cross-checked with the voters who have been verified and cast the ballots. This ensures that excessive votes are detected immediately. Nationally, we had no problem with excessive voting in all of our 38,622 polling stations except in Savelugu during the legislative elections where there was one and I repeat excessive voting. The transparency of our processes from start to finish makes this impossible. The padding of the ballots cannot be done, it is impossible. We call on the former president, in the interest of our democracy, to provide proof of the ballot stuffing by the EC “, added the Commission.
John Mahama’s claims
Former President John Dramani Mahama said that if, if he had the opportunity to assess the performance of Election Commission Chairman Jean Mensa in the 2020 general election, he would award him an F.
The 2020 presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) still believes that the patron saint of the EC and her outfit have performed poorly.
“2020 was Ghana’s worst election. If I had rated it I would have given it an F. She grades her own copy after the exam so she can give herself the grade she likes,” said the ex-president in an interview with quoted on 3news.com.
John Dramani Mahama added: âTell me for which election in Ghana the ballots were printed when a million ballots were found elsewhere. . . We did not witness this under Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan. She [Jean Mensa] knew there was ballot stuffing.
Mr. Mahama’s latest blow to Jean Mensa follows a speech by the boss of the EC at the ECOWAS meeting in Winneba on Thursday, October 14, 2021.
Nana Akomea slams Mahama
Nana Akomea refuted former President Mahama’s claims that the EC cannot rig the elections.
Echoing Mr. Mahama’s comments on the integrity of the EC during his tenure as President of the Republic, Nana Akomea said emphatically; The Election Commission cannot change the results of any candidate. It is not possible!”
For him, Mr. Mahama should take advantage of police investigations to establish the truth.
âEveryone must support them (CE). Even President Mahama should support them because he has made such claims. So if the police investigate, we will all know the truth. But for President Mahama, bear allegations against the EC without any evidence is incomprehensible because, as a former chairman and vice-chairman, accusing the Election Commission – the electoral arbiter – of it means you are ruining the integrity of the Election Commission of Ghana and of the whole electoral process, âhe said.
“If he had sent him to court as part of his case and the court ruled him out, that settles the matter. But he is making that allegation outside the court, if we leave it open, how do we know- us the truth? there has to be an investigation – a detailed investigation – so that we find out from him how it was possible to print an additional 1 million ballots with a candidate’s fingerprint, “added the boss of the STC.
Nana Akomea made these submissions on Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo”.
